This collection contains correspondence concerning the Mankato News, 1932-1965, and miscellaneous issues of the newspaper itself, 1920-1958. The newspaper covered issues related to the Mankato area and contained numerous articles about Minnesota State Senator Val Imm who served as the paper's publisher, editor, and owner between 1927 and 1958. Beginning in 1918, The Union News, an organ of the Non-Partisan League, was published on a weekly basis by a group of men in Mankato, Minnesota. In the early 1920's the paper was renamed The Telegram. In 1924, it became The Mankato News when the Mankato Publishing Co., a cooperative effort of a number of Mankato business leaders, bought the newspaper. This organization ran the paper until June of 1924 when A. J. Imm became the owner and manager. Imm operated the newspaper until November 1926 when Val and Sam Imm became the proprietors. In October 1927, Val Imm became the owner, editor, and publisher. He continued to publish the newspaper on a weekly basis until the paper's termination on 1 January 1958.
